Nancy Johnson was born and raised in a military family. Growing up she lived all over the United States, though Texas was always home to her family. Both of her parents grew up in the Corpus Christi area. Her father retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army and the family settled in Killeen, Texas where Nancy graduated from Killeen High School in 1980. Following her graduation from High School, Nancy attended Southwest Texas State University (Texas State) in San Marcos, Texas and received her Bachelor’s degree in Education, with a Counseling Minor. Nancy later continued her educational pursuits receiving her Masters of Education Administration from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 2011. Nancy is a gifted teacher and has been a Public School Teacher for more than 20 years teaching in both Texas and Oklahoma. She pours into the lives of her students. She currently teaches 5th grade at Elm Grove Elementary School in Buda, Texas.
Nancy married Buddy Johnson in 1983 and together they began a life filled with ministry. She has supported Bro. Buddy through Seminary and more than 35 years of ministry, serving alongside him in any capacity needed. She is a gifted musician, teaching voice and choir in the Public School System as well as serving in ministry position within the church. She was a member of the distinguished Singing Churchwomen of Oklahoma, a 300 voice women’s choir that sings all over the state of Oklahoma, the United States and around the world. She served as Minister of Music at Silo Baptist Church in Durant, Oklahoma from 2006 to 2011 before coming to Buda.
Nancy currently serves as Minister of Music at First Baptist Church, a position she has filled for the past 7 years. Under her leadership the choir and music ministry as First Baptist Church has grown and expanded to include a 35 member choir, multiple accompanists and instrumentalists, leading out in worship experiences and special events. Nancy also teaches an Adult Sunday School Class, serves as Vacation Bible School Co-Director, works in the church’s AWANA program, and serves anywhere else where needed.
Together Bro. Buddy and Nancy have three children, Sarah, Bethany and Trey; a daughter-in-law, Kelsey; a beautiful grandbaby, Olivia; and a soon to be son-in-law Matt Hite. All of the family is actively involved in the church at First Baptist Church Buda. Their faith and ministry is a part of who they are.
